The Guardian reports that British actor Alan Rickman passed away today, January 14th 2016, after a long battle with cancer.
Rickman died “surrounded by family and friends” according to a source close to the beloved actor. Rickman was known for such classic roles as Severus Snape from the Harry Potter films and Hans Gruber from Die Hard.
J.K. Rowling, the author of the beloved Harry Potter novels said “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.” Daniel Radcliffe also wrote a lengthy tribute saying that Rickman was “one of the greatest actors I will ever work with” as well as “one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry”.
